Il 29 ottobre del 2016 in Gallura (Sardegna), dalle colline che guardano il mare davanti all’isola di Tavolara, un masso di granito rosa ha visto sorgere per l’ultima volta il sole. Il 18 dicembre dello stesso anno, a Capri, nel mezzo di un uliveto affacciato sul mare verso Ischia, il masso sardo ha visto il suo primo tramonto dopo novantatre miliardi di albe. Il film documenta l’ultima alba e il primo tramonto del masso, ci mostra il viaggio che ha affrontato tra macchine sferraglianti ed equilibri sospesi e, soprattutto, il lavoro sapiente degli uomini che, in tre differenti luoghi – Milano, la Gallura e Capri – hanno reso possibile la realizzazione dell’opera site specific di Francesco Arena.

The 29th of October, 2016 in Gallura (Sardinia), from the hills looking eastward over the sea facing the island of Tavolora, a mass of pink granite which had been there for millions of years, saw the sun rise for the last time. On the 18th of December of that same year in Capri, in the midst of an olive grove overlooking the sea in the westerly direction of Ischia, this Sardinian mass saw its first sunset after ninety-three billion sunrises. The film documents the last sunrise and the first sunset of this mass and records the efforts involved in moving the mass between lumbering machinery and suspended equilibrium. Above all, the documentary tells the story of the skilled work of men who, in three different places – Milan, Gallura and Capri – made it possible to realize Francesco Arena’s site specific work.
